Immortality is the latest single by NewWave/Popping/Rocker John Royce Holtz. It takes some serious cahunas to even broach this enigmatic conundrum that mortals often inevitably face—whether we want to or not. As human beings de-oxygenate after a usual duration up to 100 years, rigormortis and the feast of the worms is a likely conclusion without sustaining faith of a higher power that may intervene to save our souls, if not our bodies in their currently decomposing forms….Thus, without further evidence, it appears that we had better work and play hard until our time above ground eclipses…
“I would almost re-enter the Garden of Eden!… To partake of the Tree of Life! (According to G-d’s command, blasphemous) G-d, I need to attend the Garden again….I’ll toss all my wages to the Cherebim (the creature with the fiery sword of prohibition!)—blocking my entrance to Destiny!—between the Tigris and Euphrates River!
I am no G-d nor is anybody else who is purely human! During the chorus, the narrator almost haughtily bequeathes the proposition of Immortality to become a natural extension or prolonging of his current, hipster existence. This ‘impervious to loss’ nor even ‘weakness’ mood of the narrator parallels the primal, lead and flanging synthesizer, electronic bass, and spartan, albeit hypnotic drums that weave in and out of the hauntingly repeated intonation, “Immortality.” One is perhaps tricked by the pleasing, slick, striking, unstoppable, Electronica-fest into thinking the refrain (and life finale!) will never end….
Valid or invalid, is Immortality a faith-based paradigm? Por Supuesto! Or, is Immortality an inordinately memorable and cocky imprint of a high octane, souped-up synthesizer? The refrain accompanied with a haunting vocal repetition of the word Immortality may be asked but never answered according to humanly experienced wisdom?! Yet, that does not make the notion a rhetorical question by any means of the imagination….In one manner or another, many of us are detectives!
In the between time, Immortality, the latest tune that John Royce Holtz designed on my iPhone 13 Pro Max Garageband application, is destined to become a classic Electronica gruel-fest for the Ages…Incidentally…, is it not rather fun to conjecture, even in a Gothic manner that hints at the prospect of eternal life’s either bygone opposite, beyond all mortal controls, or a wondrous sorcerer’s (perhaps G-d’s?!) hidden bag of tricks that we may somehow unearth….?
